Periodontal (gum) treatment is the management of the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth that are affected by disease. Gum disease may be the result of several factors such as heredity, poor oral hygiene, smoking, medical conditions, or other factors. It may affect one tooth or many teeth. Gum disease may be the result of a gradual loss of support around the teeth over a long period, or it may occur suddenly.
Sometimes our patients need special care to help them combat the more advanced form of gum disease, periodontitis. This can cause symptoms including sore, swollen and bleeding gums, receding gums, gum abscesses, mobile teeth, bad breath, and can eventually lead to tooth loss.
